Internet Exchange Frequently Asked Questions

Common Problems in Registration

First Things First
Before sending the registration form, please make sure that the machine (or machines) you intend to use for installing your Internet Exchange software, Internet connection and TCP/IP stack configuration are ready. Also, please note that if you wish to receive email across the Internet using the SMTP protocol (the norm), you must have a fixed IP address for the machine running the SMTP server (SMTPD). Otherwise, remote sites will not be able to send your email as it will be impossible for them to map your machine name to a IP address.

Internet Exchange licenses are tied to the Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN) of each machine Internet Exchange is installed on. For the Internet Exchange Gateway Products (cc:Mail and Lotus Notes versions) as well as the Internet Exchange Workgroup Messaging Server, as these run on a single machine, only one FQDN is required. For installations running a distributed installation of the Internet Exchange Enterprise Messaging Server, the FQDN's of each of the machines running different Internet Exchange components are required in order to enable their operation.

What Is The Host Name And Domain Name?
The FQDN (Fully-Qualified Domain Name) of the machine(s) which Internet Exchange software is installed is required. The FQDN is simply the combination of host name and domain name. For example, the FQDN "smtp1.anon.com" is made up of the following:

smtp1    This is the host name (or say the name of that machine)
anon.com    This is the domain name (or the extension for a company or an organization)

You must send the host name and domain name of machine you need to install Internet Exchange software on, in order to obtain the 30-day evaluation license key. If you have problems in determining the host name and domain name of the gateway machine, please consult your local area network administrator, your local Internet Service Provider, or contact IMA Technical Support.
