The Internet Exchange Messaging Server (both Enterprise and Workgroup versions) is a complete distributed, open architecture, Internet messaging system. The many features include the Local Message Store (with POP3/IMAP4 Service), LDAP based Directory Service, Anti-Spam, Anti-Virus, SMTP/ESTMP, Batch SMTP Tunneling, Distribution List Management, Web-based Administration, Optional cc:Mail and Lotus Notes Connector Modules, and 24-hour Technical Support.

It is ideally suited for high volume sites needing extensive anti-spam and anti-virus protection. The highly optimized IMAP4 Message Store provides a fast post office server for IMAP4 compatible clients such as Outlook Express, Netscape Communicator, Eudora, and others. The included Migration Tools provide a simple way to migrate Lotus cc:Mail and/or Lotus Notes users to a native IMAP4 environment.

  4. Internet Exchange Messaging Server has four main functions. It can perform as a high performance Messaging Switch connecting disparate email systems, such as cc: Mail and Notes, to the Internet and to each other. It can act as a full-featured standalone Internet Mail Server featuring support for Internet standards such as SMTP/ESMTP, POP3, IMAP4, and LDAP. It can function as an Internet Mail Relay Server for organizations that require such a server to transfer mail between Internet mail servers. And, with its extensive antispam and antivirus capabilities, it can act as an email firewall server that can be connected to any existing messaging system.

  16. For optimum performance, it is recommended that the Internet Exchange Messaging Server and it's components be run using the following minimum configuration:

    • Minimum Recommended hard disk space for applications: 40 MB
    • Minimum Recommended hard disk space for message storeage: 1 GB

    Windows NT 4.0 Server

    NOTE: For Windows 95, Service Pack 1 and kernel32 must be installed on the system.   For Windows NT 4 Server, Service Pack 4 must be installed on the system.  To enable Japanese language support, Japanese Windows OS is required.

    MEMORY USAGE
    The base hardware/software configuration above is only for running the machine's Operating System and other software needed by the Operating System to run Internet Exchange.  To determine the minimum memory requirement needed by your machine to run the Operating System and the Internet Exchange Modules installed on the machine, you must add the memory requirements of those maodules to the base hardware configuration.   The following lists the additional memory requirements for the various Internet Exchange Messaging Server components:

  18. The following software is required to run Internet Exchange Gateway Products–

    • Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 server (workstation not recommended) or
    • Microsoft Windows 95/98 and

    The following hardware is required to run Internet Exchange Gateway Products–

    • 80486 or higher processor
    • At least 16 MB of RAM for Windows 95
    • At least 32 MB of RAM for Windows NT
    • At least 200 MB of free hard disk is recommended, although the exact size of the hard disk required is dependent upon the message load

  22. As for the moment, we are testing the Internet Exchange Messaging Server to work with Notes 5.0. Internal tests are progressing well, and we expect to formally announce support for 5.0 in the very near future. The Internet Exchange product family has been currently been verified to work properly with all Lotus Notes 4.x versions.

  1. Which customers are eligible for free upgrades?
  2. Internet Exchange Messaging Server is a major upgrade in the Internet Exchange product family. As such, all current users of Internet Exchange (v3.XX and earlier) will be charged for upgrading to it. The prices will depend on what type and version a customer is currently using, and whether they are under support/warranty coverage or not. Please refer to the Internet Exchange price list for further details.

  3. What are the software version upgrade terms and conditions?
  4. There are no free upgrades to Internet Exchange Messaging Server for any type of current Internet Exchange user. When a customer upgrades, they will be provided with the Internet Exchange Messaging Server consisting of the Internet Exchange MTA and Message Store (for 25-users), and a Connector Module. The connector module will depend on what type of gateway/MTA software a customer currently has (cc: Mail or Notes) and the number of users (100,250,400, or unlimited).

  1. What is IMA’s software evaluation program?
  2. IMA’s Internet Exchange Evaluation Program allows potential customers to evaluate a full-featured, unlimited user version of Internet Exchange for free for thirty (30) days.

    The initial evaluation period is for 30 days only. In certain cases, an extension for a few days is granted. Please email eval-auth@ima.com for evaluation extension requests.

  3. How can customers participate in the software evaluation program?
  4. To avail of IMA’s Internet Exchange Evaluation Program, the customer should proceed to http://www.ima.com. Here, they will be required to register. After properly completing the registration, they can then choose to either download Internet Exchange immediately, or have it e-mailed to a prescribed address. After IMA has received the registration information, a license key will be sent to the customer via email. The license key is good for a 30-day trial period.

  5. What type of technical assistance can customers expect from IMA during the evaluation?
  6. IMA will provide technical assistance in the form of email and phone support, from initial product installation up to the end of the evaluation period. Technical support will be available 24 hours every day, from Mondays to Fridays.

  1. What are the various product packages and licensing schemes for Internet Exchange Messaging Server?

    The different modules and packaging of Internet Exchange Messaging Server are based on the configuration requirements of the customer. It can be purchased in three major configurations –

    • Internet Exchange Messaging Server, with the Internet Exchange MTA and a 25-user Message Store
    • Internet Exchange for cc: Mail, with the Internet Exchange Messaging Server and a cc:Mail Connector module
    • Internet Exchange for Notes, with the Internet Exchange Messaging Server and a Notes Connector module

    The cc: Mail and Notes Connectors are available in 100,250,400, and unlimited user editions. Additional user license packs are also available for the Internet Exchange Messaging Server ranging from 100 to 50,000 users.

  2. What are IMA’s product warranty and acceptance terms?
    • If for any reason a customer is not satisfied with the Internet Exchange product they received and would like to return the product kit, they may do so within 90 days upon receipt of the product. Before returning the product kit, the customer should first secure a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number from IMA. The customer will be responsible for shouldering the return shipping and handling charges that will be incurred.

  3. What type of support coverage can customers expect from IMA?
    • Internet Exchange comes with a one-year product warranty. Annual support renewal is available after the initial warranty period. Being under IMA Support entitles the user to free technical assistance 24 hours a day, from Mondays to Fridays. It also includes free access to software patches, maintenance releases, and major discounts on future versions of Internet Exchange.

  1. How long has the Internet Exchange Messaging Server been generally available?
    • The Internet Exchange Enterprise Messaging Server started shipping in August, 1999. The Internet Exchange Workgroup Messaging Server is scheduled for public release in November, 1999.

  2. Will IMA continue selling Internet Exchange Version 3.XX? Up to when?
    • YES! IMA will continue selling and supporting the Internet Exchange Gateway Products (Version 3.XX) at least through the end of 2000.

Order Fulfillment Questions

  1. What is the procedure in ordering the Internet Exchange products?
  2. To order Internet Exchange products, the customer or reseller has a choice among the following –

    • Ordering via IMA’s secure web-based ordering system (to be operational later in 1999).
    • By using product order forms that are downloadable from the IMA web site. The customer should fill in all the required information and either email the form to sales@ima.com, or fax it to designated IMA fax numbers. Once IMA receives these order forms, IMA will request for confirmation of the order and then process the order.
    • Through IMA’s global network of resellers and business partners.

  3. What is IMA’s licensing procedures?
  4. If a customer or reseller decides to purchase Internet Exchange, a valid purchase order or order form must be sent to IMA. Once this has been received, IMA will produce a temporary 30-day license key known as the interim key, which will be sent to the customer/reseller via email. As soon as confirmation of the payment has been received, a permanent license key will then be generated and sent to the customer/reseller.

  5. What are the payment methods accepted by IMA?
  6. IMA accepts the following payment methods-

    • Bank wire transfer to IMA’s US or Hong Kong accounts
    • By corporate/government checks sent to IMA’s US account (US customers only)
    • Using American Express credit card

    The net payment terms are 15 days.

  7. What are IMA’s product delivery and shipment procedures?
  8. IMA ships products once a purchase order is received. Delivery to resellers is via the courier delivery service of their choice (such as FEDEX, UPS, etc.). If requested IMA will ship the product kit directly to customers (end users), with the reseller paying for the shipping cost and all associated customs duties and taxes.
