Internet Exchange Frequently Asked Questions

Internet Exchange Distribution List Manager
Mail Blocking

Introduction
Internet Exchange Distribution Lists that are created as open lists permit the members as well as non-members to post messages to the list.  Closed lists on the other hand restrict the posting ability to only those that are members of the subscribed list.

From time to time, it may be desirable to block the ability of a forum member from posting to the list.   One situations where this may be desirable is when a given member repeatedly posts content not suitable to the charter of the list.   In such a situation, the list maintainer can either remove the offending member from the list, or simply deny their abilty to post new messages to the list, while continuing to include the offending member in all list distributions.

Mail Blocking
Through the Internet Exchange Messaging Server's Web-based administrative interface, the list owner or system administrator has the ability to set or reset the posting ability on a per-user basis.  This is useful in discouraging list members from posting messages that may be deemed offensive by the other members, without having to resort to full removal from the list.  Blocked members, howefver, are still able to receive messages posted by the other members.

To change or reset a subscriber's permissions, simply go to the Distribution List administrative screen using the web-based interface.  Once there, select "Modify Mailing List", and then the approprite list to modify.  At this point, the Mailing List Profile of the selected list will be displayed.  By selecting the "Display All Members" button, the list of subscribers will appear.   For each member that you wish to change the posting permissions for, simply check the appropriate entry or entries, and depress the "Block" button to apply.    A updated list of subscribers will then be displayed, with the requested changes having been applied.
