  1. I need to install Internet Exchange for Lotus Notes in a Domino R5 environment, but noticed that the installation instructions are for R4. What do I need to do in order to configure Domino R5?

  2. The Internet Exchange for Lotus Notes Installation Manual describes how to configure Notes R4 for use with Internet Exchange. Due to the differences between Notes R4 and R5, a new set of installation and configuration instructions is required when running with Domino R5. The document Configuring Lotus Domino R5 for use with Internet Exchange Gateway and Messaging Server Products describes how to configure Lotus Domino R5 for use with Internet Exchange.

  3. I am currently running Internet Exchange version 3.13 using interim license key. I just received my permanent license key. Is there a need for me to reinstall the gateway?

  4. No, you don’t have to reinstall the software. Just run License Update from the Programs Menu/Internet Exchange for Lotus Notes/License Update and fill on the information needed. If however you are currently running an EVAL version and then purchased the product, you need to re-install the serialized copy of the Internet Exchange gateway, then apply the Interim / Perm license key from IMA License Manager.

  5. I have hundreds of messages rerouted to the bad queue because of change of configuration in our network, What will I do so that the Internet Exchange gateway will try to reprocess those messages?

  6. Rename all the files with file extensions *.bad under drive:\ienotes\queue\bad subdirectory to extension *.msg and move it to the drive:\ienotes\queue\in subdirectory. Run the message recovery utility RCMESG.EXE to rebuild the message database.

  7. I have complaints from my users that all incoming Internet mail appears on Lotus Notes in a monospaced font. I have attempted to change this by editing the Internet mail forms database within Notes but I am unable to make the change in font permanent. Can you please let me know what the correct procedure is for making such a change.

  8. There's no option for "font settings" in the Internet Exchange gateway. Since Internet Exchange is an SMTP gateway, it just acts as a "bridge" between your Lotus Notes system and the Internet - it just passes on the other end what it receives from one end.

Please check with Lotus how you can customized your Notes server for font settings.

  9. There was an error caused by message because of an extra long header that Notes won't accept. What is the fix for this?

  10. There was a reported bug in Internet Exchange for Notes 3.11 that when NotesIn failed to process a message with a large header, e.g., the To: header has hundreds of To: addresses, it results to a deadlock in the SMTP IN queue and no more message can be processed afterward. This has been fixed in the 3.12 release.

  11. The Internet Exchange for Lotus Notes console has ??? (three question marks) in the Notes Mail box. What can we do to fix this?

  12. Improper shutdown of the Notes server, crashes or improper shutdown of Internet Exchange while performing database access can result to this. .To solve the problem, run fixup from the Notes server console or simply delete SMTP.BOX and recreate one. Make sure to setup proper ACL to SMTP.BOX also.

  13. Is it possible for Internet Exchange for Lotus Notes to accept incoming mail for multiple Notes domains?

  14. It is possible. You can go to Internet Exchange notes gateway and on the connection tab, list the desire domain name in the alternate Host/domain name. The function of this is for a gateway machine to be known by more than one FQDN. If your Notes domains use different subdomains make sure that they are defined in the Configure->Domains section of your Internet Exchange Lotuse Notes Control Panel.

  15. Internet Exchange for Lotus Notes won't accept incoming mail addressed to a name that is listed in the person doc's 'User Name' field. We put all aliases for Notes in this field and need the capability to send to those aliases without creating a separate person doc.

  16. Internet Exchange for Lotus notes uses Default Mapping. The default method of creating an Internet address from a Lotus Notes username (users which are listed in the Public Address Book). However, the default uses Firstname + separator + LastName. (i.e. John_doe@ima.com)

If you want to create an alias for a certain user , you need to configure it under USERS tab of Internet Exchange control panel, i.e John Doe - johnd.
